Revision

Revision is the in-depth bilingual examination of a translated text. It is carried out by a linguist other than the translator who compares the original and the translated text (called source and target text), checking everything – terminology, grammar and syntax, register and style – for accuracy, consistency and cultural appropriateness, and making corrections where necessary. The aim of this corrective process is to obtain a fluent text that seamlessly conveys the meaning of the original and fulfils the author’s intention.

Errors in text can damage the credibility of the author, or the reputation of an organisation, but can also have a more serious impact – think, for example, about medical instructions containing incorrect terms that have not been revised!
