Translator Training for the Chartered Institute of Linguists Qualifications

Level 6 Certificate in Translation & Level 7 Diploma in Translation

The Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL) professional qualifications have been developed to set the standards for translators, interpreters and general linguists, and are widely recognised by government departments, agencies, businesses, professional organisations and public services.

​

The CIOL Qualifications Level 6 Certificate in Translation (CertTrans) is a degree-level qualification developed with early career translation skills as its focus. It provides benchmark evidence of practical working-level translation skills and knowledge. The qualification is also a stepping stone towards the CIOL Qualifications Level 7 Diploma in Translation (DipTrans).

The CIOL Qualifications Level 7 Diploma in Translation (DipTrans) is set at Master's level and is the gold standard for anyone working as a freelance translator or as a translator for companies and organisations worldwide, meeting their need for the highest-level professional translating qualification.

To help you prepare for these rigorous exams, I offer distance learning courses (in collaboration with Susanne James Associates). The courses are practice-oriented and set at three levels: introductory, improver’s, and follow-up. Whichever course you choose, I will support you in:

  • exploring theoretical aspects and translation techniques

  • developing and improving practical translation skills

  • dictionary work and glossary building

  • practicing your translation skills in a professional context.

For CIOLQ Level 7 DipTrans, my courses cover translator training in the areas of:

  • Arts and Culture

 

For CIOLQ Level 6 CertTrans, I provide translation training in all three areas:
